I have been a HUGE fan of the original M34 canteen set for a long time. I've carried one for years now in one setup or another, usually on smaller hikes or just as an EDC bottle in my Minuteman Haversack. It's an incredibly compact and elegant solution, and a wonderful cup to boot. When Pathfinder came out with their stainless steel version, I jumped in line for one. When I received it, the first thing I decided was that the nylon strap did no favors to a great design, and the tinkering began. I wanted something slim, versatile, and easily removed. While the original M34 cup had a button stud in-between the handles this cup was without one. So, keeping with tradition, I found the room to add one, and the rest came easily.
This leather harness wraps cleanly around the top ion the cup, creating a perfect retention strap. It unbuckles from the same single button stud, allowing for easy removal to clean, or to put in the fire if you need it. The top harness goes over the cap, and snaps closed holding the bottle and the cup in one assembly (I keep a small handkerchief in the cup as well to keep the bottle from rattling). If you want to remove the bottle, the top harness can open up to release the cup without having to remove the strap from the cup itself. A two piece design allows for a complete wrap around the cup lip, ensuring that it won't slip over the top and separate Ione piece of kit from the other, and those solid copper burr rivets mean this harness is never coming apart.
Crafted from 5-6 oz veg tanned English Bridle Leather from Wickett and Craig, this piece of gear is going to LAST.
